South Coast Pirates are the 2024 Kenya Championship Cup Winners – beating Impala in the last play of the game 16-14.
Hemingways has been the proud sponsor of South Coast Pirates for much of the club’s life, taking over from founding sponsor George Barbour after his death.
Pirates has given young people from Diani Beach, a coastal community in Kenya, a talent pathway. Through its work in schools it has also improved young people’s education and employment, both boys and girls.
Here, the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman, Sasha Mutai, and the players of Pirates celebrate with me. It is fantastic that Hemingways’ unwavering support has created such a strong club culture and winning team.
Well done lads !!!
Also, I’m proud to be wearing the shirt of Cornish Pirates, another Hemingways sponsored success story. Their 2024 season in the UK Championship has a few more games to play. I follow every one of them on live stream or BBC Radio Cornwall.
They remain one of the top 15 rugby clubs in England. Or, better described, they are the top rugby club in the current Duchy of Cornwall, and the ancient Celtic Kingdom of Cornwall.
Being Cornish, and Celtic, we fight fiercely to send any English invaders home with a bloody nose when they come to play us in Penzance !!!!
Below is St Piran’s Flag, the flag of Cornwall. Will it surprise you to know that St Piran was an Irishman and “the merriest, hardest drinking, hardest living holy man Cornwall ever knew“.
St Piran was a lad after my own heart, more on the link below
Evans is a good Welsh name and that’s my family heritage. My grandfather played rugby in Wales. We feel that Celtic link strongly in Cornwall and our independence as a Kingdom, and that’s born out by the history.
More of that on the link below.
