My thanks to my great friend Gavin Hastings for sending me the details of this wonderful charity, SportParkinsons.com, pictured here with Charlie Appleyard co-founder of the charity.
“Keep healthy and strong ’til a cure comes along.” That’s a motto to live by.
Gavin sent me this in response to my New Year’s resolution to hit a golf ball without falling over. That needs me walking better first. The great thing about this charity is it uses sport for exercise and socialising, both brilliant “medicines” for Parkinsons.
I can’t tell you how much I miss golf. If I can walk, and have better balance, I am a step closer to swinging a club again.
Gavin and I have had some great rounds of golf together over the years. He would get the better of me now, but not always! We have some stories to tell too … !!!
“If you fall over everyone knows exactly what you’re going through. There’s no issues with it. There’s just going to be someone there with a helping hand to pick you up and crack on.” My favourite line in this video from Sport Parkinsons.

Here is the link to last year’s golf events and I’m looking forward to seeing 2024’s calendar and whether I can make any when I’m back in the UK.
I encourage you all to take a look at the charity, and I will be its newest supporter. Maybe even set myself a challenge! This year its walking for my investiture – and kneeling and getting back up – that’s a lot to work on!
You can support here if you wish to.
