With all the excitement of the Knighthood, I’ve had a great New Year and I want to thank you again for your fantastic messages.
But… resolutions still need making and working on!
We all need positive targets, especially those of us working to live to be 100 with good physical and mental health.
10 Year Resolution
I made a resolution when I turned 70 to catch a marlin every year until I was 80.
I turned 78 in November and I’ve just caught a 40kg striped marlin, so that’s one resolution sorted, not the last marlin of the year I hope!!
First photo is my marlin. Second is a better photo of a striped marlin, beautiful fish, and thanks to Tag & Release here in Kenya, carefully protected.
2024 Resolutions
Learn to walk again
The Parkinsons has gradually chipped away at my walking. I know that walking is important to whole body health, not just getting from A to B.
I have been inspired by:
- the “conscious walking” physical training programme I shared before Christmas
- the advances in technology that can implant a spinal stimulation device, also shared earlier, and
- new drugs that are improving brain function so that mobility is returning to some Parkinson’s sufferers. This is in the US but I’m on the list for UK trials.
I am determined to get back what I’ve lost in the last couple of years, and to be able to walk to stand in front of King Charles for my investiture.
Hit a golf ball 150m
I miss golf. I hate not being able to swing a club without falling. By strengthening my core and improving my balance, I hope to be able by the end of the year to hit a golf ball 150m.
I’ve managed, through attention to many ways of mitigating Parkinson’s, to stave off the worst of the tremors, so that’s one positive in swinging a three wood.
So, what are your resolutions? And why?
Always good to hear from you and I hope we all succeed together. You can sign up for personal updates and that’ll put us in direct touch by email. Or send me a comment at the bottom of this post.
