Last week I met Guy Deacon CBE, adventurer and fellow Parkinson’s sufferer. I was proud to host him and the British High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan at the Africa Premiere of Running on Empty.
Generously hosted by Hemingways Nairobi and attended by 100 guests, the event raised over $40,000 which will be used by The Deacon Foundation to expand already successful programmes in Uganda to here in Kenya.
Thank you to everyone who came and donated so generously.
Can you imagine having Parkinson’s and your family won’t touch you because they’re afraid they will catch your condition?
Or that people believe you are cursed by witchcraft because of Parkinson’s Disease?
That is the reality in large parts of Africa. In Kenya we will improve the lives of Parkinsons sufferers and their families by some simple and inexpensive education that can instantly transform how people are treated.
Funds raised will be used by Si Buko to expand their successful work in Uganda to Kenya, see here for an insight into their work.
Also to expand the number of Parkinson’s sufferers who get support from the Kenya Parkinsons Care Network. This has groups in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kisumu and you can see a short video of their work here
Through my personal oversight and that of the Guy Deacon and the Trustees on his Deacon Foundation, we will ensure that more people with Parkinson’s get the help and support they deserve.
Thank you all for your support. You can continue to donate to the Deacon Foundation below.
