Gifts for Grandparents

Just how hard is it to get gifts for grandparents?

Mostly they don’t want anything, have everything they need, say “Oh please don’t bother” but YOU want to give them something. Here are some suggestions…

Dicky’s Grandparent Gift Suggestions

Lots of T-shirts, this is one of my favourites 😂 Others available here 👚

Do you really know your family? #1 Card Game. Games are fun and I love passing the time with my grandkids like this.

Take flowers, or better still, get them delivered the day before with a personal message. They then have time to get them in a vase in a relaxed fashion before you arrive – perfect!

The Oura Ring is fantastic, its stylish, fascinating and useful. It measures your readiness to face each day!

Dry lips are a big thing as you age. This is a perfect personalised gift for any grandparent.

A supporter hat or t-shirt for their favourite sports team or maybe a band or a favourite place – my favourite team is not hard to guess!!! Cornish Pirates 🏴‍☠️

This is a gift that is with them everyday. Buy a subscription to Audible so that they forever have FREE books to listen to. Same for KINDLE.

How about an ancestry test? I used TellMeGen – others available too – it was fascinating!! There’s a starter kit and an advanced version that also shows genetic markers for health.

Elf Aprons and hats. Here you can get two for under £10. Cook in festive style.

Personalised Jigsaw Puzzles – a fun way to spend time indoors with your grandparents.

If you’re going for socks and underwear – go Bamboo – its the best. Naked Nation for socks beautifully presented and Step One my favourite for boxers.

If you’re giving a bottle, give it in an attractive, easy to carry, reusable wine bag. Grandparents are great re-users of things, and this will come in handy for another gift to someone else!

Seeing my grandchildren jumping up and down with excitement when they give me a present is better than the gift itself!!”

Experiences

Being with you is the best gift of all. Buy something to do to spend time with your grandparents.

Some of these cost nothing, some cost a lot, but they will be all be appreciated

Sunshine and family (Cornwall best!!) If its winter and wet, give the gift of a sunshine picnic IOU. Look for places with tables as old bones don’t like sitting on the ground!

“Read all about it” Your grandparents will know that phrase! Sit and read together about the year of their birth through REAL newspapers of the day. The Telegraph, Times, Daily Mirror and others

Sunday Brunch somewhere stunning. Spend hours relaxing, enjoying food, atmosphere and chat. My favourite is Hemingways, for long lazy brunch with spice try Dishoom in the UK, what’s your favourite?

Get creative… Paint together. These paint by number kits have everything in them and however old or young you are, you can paint together. Don’t rush it! Your grandparents may have sore joints or wobbly fingers.

Buy recipe ingredients and spend time with your grandparents cooking together. They will teach you a thing or two !!

A fantastic restaurant owned by a rugby mate in London, does Steak Roulette !! Plus other exclusive experiences around the world. Pricey but historic!

Go to a match together – Championship rugby is my favourite by far. Great crowds, great value, quality sport. Fantastic day out whatever sport you choose.

Highclere Castle (where Downton Abbey was filmed) has fabulous interiors and gardens, special events and more. Any historic house or garden is a wonderful day out.

A British tradition, the PANTO !!! Different websites will show what’s on near you or near you Grandparents – its a fabulous family activity

A day out at the shops can be great fun, either window shopping, or the real thing. Be mindful of your grandparents fitness and mobility. Take it slow, be together and enjoy the time.

Much of modern history is OUR history – your grandparents will relate. UK Museums and Galleries are among the best in the world. Many of them are FREE. Here’s a top ten across the UK.

Pamper your grandparent(s) with a wonderful and relaxing spa day. Do it together, that’s the best of all. Good recommendations here as a review of the best in the UK

What about Chocolates?

If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know that to stay well for longer, I advocate reducing sugar intake.

Yes, a celebration is a celebration 🥳 so you can go wild if you like, but if you want to find alternatives to a box of chocolates here goes:

It’s a …. box of chocolates 😂 Hooray !! Totally sugar-free but great reviews and beautifully presented.

Who doesn’t love a chocolatey red velvet cake – with no sugar… Make it and take it 🎂, or take it and bake it with your grandparents 👩‍🍳

How lovely do these look? A beautiful package of sugar free farmhouse biscuits for everyone’s taste.

Wow look at these 🤩 Fresh dark chocolate truffles. Haven’t tried them myself but they are going on the list for Father Christmas.
